Supporting SOS Childrens Villages Charity in Pakistan
CementSuppliers.net is pleased to announce a partnership with SOS Childrens Villages in Pakistan! We have agreed with SOS Childrens Villages to donate and help publicize their exceptional efforts in Pakistan. As most of our clients and prospective clients will be aware, the recent floods have devastated large parts of Pakistan and left millions of people homeless, we hope very much that our support will enable SOS to continue their good work and we urge others to donate to their much needed cause. SOS Childrens Villages Work in Pakistan
SOS Children’s Villages: Bringing hope to children and families affected by the floods in Pakistan
SOS Children’s Villages has been providing a family for life for children who have lost their parents through conflict, famine, natural disaster, disease and poverty since 1949.
More than 78,000 orphaned or abandoned children are cared for by SOS mothers in clusters of family homes in 505 unique SOS Children’s Villages, in 124 countries worldwide. Each Children’s Village consists of around 10-20 family homes and each SOS mother looks after between five and 10 children.
Most SOS Villages also include an SOS Nursery, Primary and Secondary School and a Medical Centre which are not only used by the children who live in the Village, but also by disadvantaged children from the local community. A further million benefit from SOS Children’s outreach support which includes education, vocational training, medical care and community development programmes.
Already there when disaster strikes
Because SOS Children is based in-situ, permanently, when disaster strikes the charity is ready to mobilise existing resources to care for unaccompanied children and provide immediate aid for local communities. They can rely on local staff with childcare expertise.
The charity has been active in helping disaster victims including those of the 2004 Boxing Day Tsunami, the 2005 Kashmir earthquake, (after which SOS Children were named custodians of all unaccompanied children by the Pakistani government), the 2010 Haiti earthquake and the recent flooding in Pakistan.
A lifeline for the children of Pakistan
Since July 2010, heavy monsoon rains in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan regions of Pakistan have resulted in the countries’ worst ever flooding. More than two thousand people have died and a million homes have been destroyed. Over 21 million people are injured or homeless, exceeding the combined total of individuals affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and the 2010 Haiti earthquake.
Following a catastrophe, it is essential to give lone and desperate children some of what they have lost: safety, security and familiarity. Children affected by the flooding need shelter, food, safe drinking water. SOS Children has been helping children and families since the flooding began by delivering thousands of food packages, tents and relief items. With public health remaining one of the biggest threats to survivors, thousands of medical and hygiene kits have also been distributed. The charity is also offering children who have been orphaned or abandoned a new home in any of its eight Children’s Villages. If it is not possible to reunite children with their families, they will be able to join an SOS family permanently.
For just £20 a month you can sponsor an SOS Children’s Village. This money will help all the children living there, as well as children and families from the local community who make use of the schools and medical centres.
